Since 1831, Dublin Zoo has cared for animals large and small, native and exotic. During that time over 55 million people have visited the Zoo and experiened wildlife in ways that reflected Irish society at the time.
In this new edition of the illustrated history, the story of Dublin Zoo is brought to life, from its modest beginnings on a four acre plot, to today’s Zoo of 70 acres where social groups of animals live in world-class habitats. Nearly two centuries of history are richly illustrated with special emphasis on the last 25 years, which have consolidated Dublin Zoo’s position as a leader in wildlife conservation and education.
Author Catherine de Courcy is an internation expert on the history of zoos.
