ABOUT THE POET:
Mike Jennings is a retired General Secretary of IFUT (the Irish Federation of University Teachers), Chair of TASC (Think-tank for Action on Social Change), an enthusiastic Irish language student and a bass singer in his local choir.
Mike was born in Dublin, raised in Galway and moved back to Dublin in his twenties, where he lives with his wife, one dog, two cats and the detritus of his two emigrant adult sons’ childhood.
He attended University College, Galway in the 1970s where he obtained a BA and a HDip (postgraduate teaching diploma), dabbled in student drama but found his niche in student politics. He served as President of the UCG Students’ Union after graduation and, on leaving UCG, went on to work for the Union of Students in Ireland.
He subsequently moved to the ITGWU (now SIPTU) and ended up back in the realm of third level education when he joined IFUT in 2016.
This is Mike’s first collection of poems though individual other poems of his have appeared in a diverse range of publications over the years.
