LAUNCH: Crying Wolf

Books Upstairs and Little Island Books are looking forward to celebrating the launch of James Butler’s Crying Wolf, a gripping urban YA thriller. The book will be launched by award-winning author Dr Katriona O’Sullivan.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Joey’s stepdad, Vinnie, left Dublin over a year ago. Now he’s back, and everyone wants to know if he’s still a wolf.

Joey wants to believe Vinnie has given up his dodgy ways. But he’s in no hurry to meet him. With his girlfriend going to Trinity College and his new start living with his aunt, Joey is trying to move on.

But fate doesn’t sit on the fence and Joey will have to confront his own painful past and the role his stepdad played in it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

James Butler’s background is in education and drama.  He holds an MPhil in Creative Writing from Trinity College Dublin. He spent many years as a writer working in collaboration with the teenage members of Kathryn Coffey’s Stage 51 Theatre Group. Some of the plays performed by the group are available on Playshare.  (Youth Theatre Ireland’s curated compendium of plays.) In 2016 his radio play The carpet Clown was produced by RTÉ Drama On One as part of The PJ O’ Connor Awards. In 2019 his novel for young adults, Dangerous Games was published by Little Island Books and won The Great Reads Award (2020)

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Dr Katriona O’Sullivan is an associate professor in the faculty of science in Maynooth University, a psychologist and memoirist. Her first book, Poor, debuted at #1 on the Irish Non-Fiction bestseller list. As one of 5 children in a home shaped by her parents’ heroin addiction, Katriona’s story chronicles her journey from poverty, teenage pregnancy, homelessness to graduating with a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and becoming an award-winning lecturer whose work challenges barriers to education.
